COZY APARTMENT, our first Airbnb experience, came about because there was no convenient hotel in Downtown Rutland, a small city we’d decided to visit so we could check off Vermont from our list of New England states.
We anxiously arrived on Chestnut Ave. after a short walk at dusk from the Amtrak train station with our luggage in tow. It felt unusual walking onto somebody’s property in a residential area late in the evening, but we’d received clear instructions on how to gain access to the self-contained apartment at the rear.
We were greeted by a friendly welcome card from the hosts, Sarah and Mike, which told us if we needed anything else to reach out.
The apartment was clean, neat and spacious and consisted of:
- an open plan family room with a kitchen
- a small bathroom and shower
- a steep staircase leading to a medium-sized bedroom and closet
The apartment was well resourced with everything we could have needed, such as stove, microwave, fridge, crockery, utensils etc. The bathroom, which was compact, even had spare supplies in, and while we didn’t need many of these things for our stay, it was good to know they were there.
The bedroom was cosy and had an AC unit which filled the whole property up with cool air. The bed sheets were immaculately clean and the bed was super soft. The large closet had a powerful iron and ironing board and a plentiful supply of coat hangers.
As we came and went over the 3 days of our stay we encountered only a few neighbors near the apartment and they were friendly to us. As we walked into Downtown Rutland almost everyone wished us good morning or said hello.
At the end of our stay, we left Sarah and Mike a card and a bar of English milk chocolate to thank them for making our first Airbnb experience a positive one!

WHAT WAS GOOD ABOUT THE PROPERTY
👍 This Airbnb is in a good location:
- 10 min walk to a Stewart’s Shops store
- 15 min walk to Downtown Rutland
- 15 min walk uphill to Starbucks, Wendy’s, Five Guys etc.
👍 The neighbors are friendly.
👍 The apartment was neat, clean and cosy.
👍 The apartment was well resourced with:
- WiFi and smart TV
- Kitchen with appliances
- Books, blankets and cushions
- Air conditioning
- Hot shower
- and more.
